I have a thing with heights. I love rock climbing, but hate repelling. I can climb up any mountain, but looking down scares the living daylights out of me! On a recent trip to Colorado, the thrill of rising to an elevation of 14,265 feet to Mount Evans was the highlight of my trip. The stunning 360-degree view of the Rocky Mountains was breath taking as we drove on the highest paved road in America! As the road twisted and turned around sharp edges, I failed to notice my calm husband’s white knuckles as he gripped the steering wheel along one particular curve. I was enjoying the beauty while he was desperately trying to keep us from falling off a cliff!

It got me thinking how each of us makes decisions. We tell our kids “don’t settle for less”, but how often do we settle for less than our best out of fear of making the wrong decision?

Many of us sit white knuckled in fright, unable to reach our full potential. With every decision, we have the choice to AIM HIGH—to make bold decisions and bold changes.

Do you know someone who soars above the clouds, aiming high even in the midst of danger? I do. With every twist and turn, they make better and bolder decisions.

Recently, I made a completely-out-of-character-for-me bold decision to apply for a speaker position at the Decatur Book Festival representing the Atlanta Writer’s Club. I knew when I applied that it was a long shot and even joked with a friend about the possibility of me ever being considered. After all, an author from the club just got a movie contract! But I told myself to AIM HIGH. A month later, I got accepted!

I want to be remembered as someone whose bold decisions affected lives for the better. I want to be remembered for making a difference. Now and then, I step out on a ledge, literally and figuratively, to force myself to get out of my comfort zone and not to settle for less than I am capable. Will you step out of your comfort zone with me and AIM HIGH?
